What is Title IX?

Title IX states that: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. The Office of Title IX Compliance at the University of Florida provides leadership for Title IX activities; consultation, education and training; and helping to ensure the university responds appropriately, effectively and equitably to Title IX issues.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS:

When a student or employee has experienced a hostile environment such sexual assault or severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive sexual harassment, schools must stop the discrimination, prevent its recurrence, and address its effects. This includes retaliation from other students, school administrators, or faculty.

Schools must proactively prevent and respond to claims of sexual harassment, sexual violence, and other forms of gender-based violence, retaliation, discrimination, and must have an impartial and prompt process for investigating and adjudicating reported cases.

Report with UF

Anyone who feels that they have been subjected to prohibited conduct is encouraged to bring it to the attention of the University’s Title IX Coordinator. Title IX requires officials to take action, to report violations of the gender equity policy.

Report to Law Enforcement

A criminal investigation undertaken to determine whether an individual violated criminal law. An individual who is found guilty of such a crime following a law enforcement investigation and trial may be imprisoned.

Report to Clery

Campus Security Authorities are defined by the Clery Act and designated by UF. Your responsibilities as a Campus Security Authority are straightforward – to report crimes identified by the Clery Act that are reported and occurred on/around UF campuses and properties.

Anonymous Reporting

Your report will be forwarded to the Title IX Coordinator for review. Depending on the amount of information disclosed, the University’s ability to investigate and respond to the report may be limited.
